TRUE OR FALSE?
The claims made in this viral image are fake at multiple levels. Firstly, the language that has been used in this document is not professional at all. The document uses words like ‘majestratives.’ It is either ‘magistrates’ or ‘magistrate.’ Statements such as ‘All we have knew’ are examples of wrong usage of the language. Incorporating ellipsis (three dots) is another instance of proving that it is not a professional document.
Secondly, the format does not adhere to the regular rules of any legal notice. Usage of a watermark and the way the subject line is written are further indications of an amateurish attempt of writing a legal notice.
Thirdly, the letter claims to have been issued by the High Court of Maharashtra. But there is no judicial body by that name. It is actually the Bombay High Court. Also, prejudge is not a post in the Indian judiciary, as mentioned in the document.
Fact Check:
A message circulating on WhatsApp and other social media sites claims to present a Government Notice on PUBG Mobile Game Ban in India. The popular mobile online game is creating a lot of nuisance and many students are spoiling their lives, it mentions. Amidst some concerns about addiction of the game and its nature, many viewers believed in the ‘notice’ of PUBG Mobile Game Ban in India. It is not true; the ‘Government Notice’ on PUBG mobile game ban in India is fake.
About PUBG Mobile Game and Its Concerns
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) is an online multiplayer battle royale game developed and published by PUBG Corporation. PUBG is available in the free-to-play variant. The mobile version of the game was released in early 2018 by Tencent Holdings Ltd. and became very popular, especially in India. The game involves players fighting each other with weapons. In order to win, they have to land, loot and do whatever it takes to survive and be the last man standing. Kids and adults are hooked onto the game for hours, also because of the high-quality graphics and audio.
Some experts express concerns that PUBG game keeps a player hooked on for several hours and can lead to addiction. There are also concerns, the nature of PUBG game and its blood and gore can affect children’s mind. On the other hand, there’s high risk of myopia and eye stress in children staring into any electronic gadget for too long.
Some schools in Bengaluru started warning parents about the ill-effects of playing the game for hours at a stretch. Tamil Nadu’s Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) had banned PUBG game in its campus (see the notice below). The University put up a notice saying students playing the game are disturbing their fellow roommates and spoiling the entire atmosphere of the hostel. The notice also suggests students to concentrate on physical games or sports instead and give more importance to their career growth. In fact, some reports say people are wasting hours after getting that precious ‘Winner Winner Chicken Dinner’ in PUBG game.
